About Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia is considered one of the best cities in the country to live in, based on quality of life. It is situated on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean, and its tranquil setting makes for a picturesque backdrop to one’s everyday life. Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia and has a population of approximately 390,000 people, which is roughly over 40% of the population of the province. The city has the second largest coastal population in the country.

Halifax is considered a global city, as its epicenter is filled with government buildings and many corporate headquarters. The buildings in the downtown overlook the famous Halifax town clock. The main source of revenue in the region is fishing, mining, lumber mills and the extraction of natural gas. Much takes place within the urban core of the city, which surrounds Halifax Harbour. These areas include Dartmouth and Bedford –Sackville. Many live in the suburbs and commute from Mainland Halifax, Lower Sackville and Cole Harbour into the city core for work and entertainment. Dartmouth is home to one of Canada’s great schools – Dalhousie University.

The Halifax Explosion

One of the greatest tragedies in Canadian history happened right in Halifax Harbour. On December 6, 1917, a French cargo ship carrying explosives for the war collided with a Norwegian ship in the Narrows of the Harbour. A fire started on the French ship, which ignited the explosives, which consequently created a massive explosion that became known as the Halifax Explosion. It totally devastated the area and over 2000 people were killed, and thousands more injured. Buildings collapsed as a result of the explosion, and debris was thrown for miles. The destruction was insurmountable, and the explosion is ingrained in the history of the city.

Living in Halifax

There is much to do and see in Halifax. The iconic town of Peggy’s Cove is a must for all. • Thank you very much for contacting me about my move. Due to the urgency of planning my move, I did happen to already book with someone else who I happened to connect with a bit sooner than you. But I am really impressed with the many great quotes from high-quality movers that I received so quickly via your service, so I want you to know that I will certainly be keeping you in mind for any future moving needs for myself or my friends.
    With thanks and best regards,
