Moving tips what to do after the move?

Once you’ve moved all the moving boxes into your new home, the biggest part of the moving process is over. Have some fun, order in a pizza, and enjoy your first night in a new place. But, once that’s over there’s still plenty that needs to be done in order to get back into your regular routine. Here are a few of them and some tips for doing them in the most efficient way.

Check All Your Major Appliances

For those who moved major appliances like a refrigerator, dishwasher, store, or dryer, it’s a good idea to ensure all of them are still in working order. Check for any damage while you’re at it. If you need to send off something for the insurance policy, you often have a limited time to do so. Make sure expensive items are checked and working so you can do this sooner rather than later.

Check Your Furniture and Moving Boxes

Check the rest of your furniture over for any damages. Be sure boxes are in good condition. You should also do a home inventory to make sure nothing is lost. If you find damaged or missing items, contact your mover and the insurance company so you can deal with these things quickly. You don’t want to end up paying for something out of pocket that you do not need to.

Ensure Utilities Are Set Up

Make sure that your utility services are all up and running. Showing up to find the lights or water don’t work is definitely a drag. If the electricity is not running, you won’t be able to check your electronics are working. If something isn’t running, get in touch with the proper company to sort out the issue as soon as you possibly can.

Help Your Pets Adjust

For those moving with pets, you want to be sure they are adjusted to the new home. A good first step is to clean the new place, as animals are highly aware of smells. Then you should care for them and show them were things like food bowls and litter pans are in the house. Spend as much time with them as you can to avoid anxiety.

Find a Good School for Your Children

If you haven’t chosen a school for your children, if applicable, you need to do that quickly. You should talk to people from the area or even gather some information online about the schools nearby. It’s also a good idea to meet with some of the faculty at potential schools to see how you feel. Be sure you have documents needed to register your child when it comes time.

Register Your Vehicle

Registering your child in a school isn’t the only registration to take care of. If you have moved into a new province or state, you need to register your vehicle. It’s possible you’ll need to transfer your license, as well. Thankfully, these things are typically not time-consuming but they still need to be done.

Get Connected

Getting a subscription to the local newspaper can help you feel more at home. You’ll be aware of what’s happening in the neighbourhood, which is a nice feeling. You can also meet some of your neighbours, who may have suggestions for getting more connected with your new area. Finding some new friends can make a new place really start to feel like home.

Make Sure You’re Receiving Mail

Double check with your old residence or new post office to be sure your mail is now being forwarded. In addition, if you haven’t already, this is a good time to change your address with all companies and organizations who require it. You want to ensure people who need to get in contact with you can do so at your new home.

Once you’ve checked off many of these things, you’ll feel more peaceful in your new home. Getting back into a routine will be a breeze.

Customers Reviews

  • Thank you very much for contacting me about my move. Due to the urgency of planning my move, I did happen to already book with someone else who I happened to connect with a bit sooner than you. But I am really impressed with the many great quotes from high-quality movers that I received so quickly via your service, so I want you to know that I will certainly be keeping you in mind for any future moving needs for myself or my friends.
    With thanks and best regards,

Moving Tip

  • Get rid of the junk! Get rid of anything you don’t need or want, it will make packing that much easier and save you money. The more stuff you have will increase the time and or weight of the move and will cost you more money!
  • Do not move jewelry, money, coin collections, etc. Keep these items in your possession.
